Just Venting

I don't know how anyone else in the Detroit Metro area feels about it, but I am at my limit with construction. Not only have I been experiencing an additional 20-30 minute commute everyday, but today and tomorrow are ridiculous! Today, Elijah missed karate because it took me an hour and 45 minutes to get from Bingham Farms to Canton. Telegraph was a parking lot; I-275 was a parking lot; Haggerty was a parking lot; as well as 5 Mile and Newburgh. I was ready to pull of the road and either scream or cry. Instead, I came home and fixed myself a glass of wine!

Tomorrow, they are closing Telegraph around I-696 -- guess what . . that's the way I get to work! I'm sure 12 Mile will be a parking lot, so who knows how I'm going to get through this. Wish me luck and thanks for letting me vent!

Kevin is getting a second opinion next week. Thank you for your prayers!

Good Luck!

Two of my nieces are off to a dance competition in the Chicago area. One dances Wednesday and the other on Thursday. Wish them luck and please say a prayer for them that they travel safe and do well! Good luck Laura & Sarah!

It's the Weekend!

What a nice weekend it looks to be! We started out Saturday with some karate, followed by time at the park! Elijah has now earned 2 stripes and 2 stars in karate! The rest of the weekend includes homework, laundry, cleaning and some play time. It's nice to be home for a weekend!

Happy birthday to my brother-in-law Blane. (a day late and a dollar short I know)! I hope you had a great day!

In loving memory

reAfter coming back from Lexington, I was told that Uncle Nick passed away. He has been a part of our family ever since I can remember. Uncle Nick was a companion of my grandmother and a dear family member to all of us. Yesterday was a visitation/memorial. We will all miss you Uncle Nick, the Greek!

Kentucky Wrap Up

I'm a few days late in posting this, so I apologize in advance.

Saturday we started off the day with breakfast in the restaurant. It was a fabulous buffet (we also enjoyed it on Sunday). After breakfast it was off in the Marriott van for drive in the country. We saw a lot of horse farms and learned about white and black fences. We also learned more about horse reproduction that I ever wanted to know.

We stopped off at Woodford Reserve for a tour and some bourbon. We got a shot of bourbon and a bourbon ball before the tour. After the tour, we had lunch that included chocolate bourbon cake.

From there we checked out a few competitor hotels and headed back to the hotel. After getting back, we loaded up the kids and went to the Kentucky Horse Park. First off, the signage is less than impressive. About our second time around, the kids had a meltdown, so we stopped a playground they setup at the park. I wandered around and secured passes for a pony ride for the kids. Elijah loved it and so did the other kids. That is until one of them had an allergic reaction and broke out in hives! A trip to the drugstore and some Benedryl fixed that.

From there, we met up with an old friend at a place called Gattitown. The website is still under construction, so you may not see it yet. Basically it's a little Chuck E Cheese with a splash of Dave & Busters. The kids had fun and the food wasn't too bad (definitely cheaper than CEC).

Sunday was breakfast and the drive home. Happy belated Father's Day to all you dads out there. Did you remember to call and wish your dad a Happy Father's Day?

Southern Hospitality

I'm sitting in a suite at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort. (www.griffingatemarriott.com). It was a crazy day getting down here, but as soon as I walked in, I remembered why I love this hotel. We had a fabulous dinner at the Mansion. (the only 4 diamond restaurant in Lexington), and now I am chillin out trying to motivate myself to do homework!

Tomorrow is a tour of Lexington and a little R&R. Sunday we hit the road to come back to Detroit! Have a great weekend y'all!

Headin down to the bluegrass

I'm leaving for Lexington, KY in the morning. A business trip with a dash of pleasure. I'll fill you in later. I thought Elijah would be excited to see some horses, but he said they are stinky. (I guess they don't keep the barn clean at The Henry Ford). Yee Haw! I'll write y'all later!

Another Update

Thank you to everyone that has been praying for Kevin. I really appreciate it!

He had a great breakthrough today! He sounds really good and it was great to talk to him like the old days. One of the tumors game back non-cancer. The other one came back a different grade, but over the phone, the doctor did not call it cancer. He plans to go for a second opinion -- as we all have learned over the years that it never hurts to get one. He is having complications from where they removed the lymph nodes and the results of that biopsy aren't back yet. So, he's not totally out of the woods yet, but he sounded so much better.

Thank you again, and please keep him in your prayers.

Kevin Update

I haven't spoke with Kevin, but I spoke with his mom. He went in yesterday and it looks like he was getting an infection. Right now he is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. He will probably call me later, but please keep praying for him.

Thank you.

Nothing New

I haven't had any updates about my friend Kevin. I've been leaving messages this week. As soon as I hear more, I'll post a note.

This is the last weekend of Marketing. Managerial Economics starts Tuesday. Yes, I am having a panic attack over the syllabus! Part of me would just love to drop it, take six weeks off and pick it up later, but I don't think that is going to happen! Another team project, an individual paper, and lots of online research. The first one is about the rising costs of gas, and universal health care -- two interesting topics . . . eh?

Enjoy you weekend!

Race for the Cure

Although my schedule has not permitted me to participate, today is Detroit's Race for the Cure. It's a great cause and has become very dear to my heart over the last six years. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation also has items for purchase. If you are looking for a place to donate to, look no further!

More Prayers Needed

My friend Kevin is back in the hospital. He's having complications from the surgery. They also took some lower lymph nodes to test for cancer, so he's in bad shape all the way around. He could use some prayers if you could say one for him. Thank you.

Happy Birthday Uncle Butch!

Usually the fact that my uncle was born on June 6, is not a big deal, but this year it gives me the willies! Happy birthday . . . I hope your day is great!

Mini Trip

I took a mini trip to Cedar Point yesterday. We left on Sunday and stayed at the Castaway Bay Resort and Waterpark. The waterpark was really cool and Elijah loved it! On the downside, the hotel did not have internet (WHAT?). How can that be in today's world? I had some projects for school to turn in, so I found myself at the local Starbucks. The employees there were so nice and accommodating . . . Thank you!

All I have to say is Cedar Point is not Disney or Universal. From the service, to the maps, to the overall experience. Elijah had fun, but the park just wasn't what I remembered it as growing up.
It's the last week of Marketing! Yippee! Wish me luck!

Prayer Request

On another note, my oldest dearest friend Kevin had surgery today. It looks like his testicular cancer is back. I spoke with him briefly and he is in a lot of pain. I don't know what the results of the surgery were and what the course of treatment is from here, but if you would please say a prayer for him, I would appreciate it. He has been through so much over the last year that he could really use some good news these days! Thank you!

June Already?

I can't believe it's June! Where has the time gone?

I was at the CoPa yesterday to see the Tigers. Someone I work with in Minneapolis came in to visit our office and a bunch of us were fortunate to go to the game for some R&R. Being a sales person, it is fun to do these things when you get the chance. We started with some cocktails at the Copper Canyon and from there we made a little detour to get on the Lodge and head downtown. While I was trying to decide where to park, I discovered the Town Pump and thought of a friend that frequented that place years ago. I didn't get to see the end of the game (I left in the 6th inning), but I guess our section won donuts. How do you cash that in?

Two weeks left in Marketing and then it's Econ! I just got the book yesterday. Tuesday I get to preview the class, so I'm sure I will be posting my initial thoughts then!

Have a nice weekend!
