November?

Say it isn't so! Where has this year gone?

I am reading a book about leadership in my class. It's called "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" by John C. Maxwell. It's a great, easy to read, book about what makes a great leader. There are so many good quotes, I could go on forever . . .

A great quote is actually a leadership proverb: "He who thinks he leads, but has no followers, is only taking a walk." (Maxwell, 1998, p.20).

I'll try to quote some more as the month goes on.

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! Elijah and his class went on a field trip to a senior citizen home for a Halloween Parade. He was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. It was his first time riding a schoolbus. He said he had a good time.

Tonight he will be a red Power Ranger. The only reason he was a TMNT was he needed something that was easy to get in and out of while at school.

Happy Birthday Chad

Happy Birthday to my brother Chad. I hope your day gives you what you want from it.

Do What You Have to Do

Once in awhile, I get songs in my head that I can't seem to get out. I once heard them called "earworms." Maybe they should be called something else because that is really gross. I don't know if I am 'allowed' to write down the lyrics, so I'll attach the links.

http://www.geocities.com/riddles_and_rhymes/lyrics/dwyhtd.html
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/petergabriel/igrieve.html

I have cried to this song off and on for many years. It makes me think of my honey and how much I miss him.

Last week Elijah asked if he could play his daddy's guitar. I let him. I showed him how to hold it and I took his picture. It took everything in me not to burst into tears right then and there. I can't do it because Elijah gets upset if he thinks I'm upset. He tells me he misses his Daddy. It breaks my heart that Gary isn't here with us. That's all for now.

Book It!

Elijah's class participates in Book It! with Pizza Hut. If you make your reading goal, you get a coupon for a free personal pan pizza. Elijah earned his for the month of October. He was so excited. He was holding his paper all the way to school and even said "Mommy, I'm so excited!" We went today and got the pizza. He was so cute as he held it up and showed the server.

It's been a rough week from a work and personal standpoint. Hopefully it will start to get better at work, but I don't know when it will on the other front. If you are one that prays, I ask that you say a few for my family.

Don't forget to change your clocks tonight!

Elijah updates

Elijah is doing very well in his class. He seems to be enjoying school and is learning a lot. He now does number games like "I know what 5 and 6 are: 56!" It's cute to see him figuring things out!

He's also doing well in karate. He did some good deeds and read some books to earn two more stars for his Gi. He now has 5 stars for his Gi!

He's also excited that he's almost met his monthly reading commitment for school. If he makes it he gets a PizzaHut coupon for a free personal pan pizza. At first he wasn't excited because he said he can't read. Finally he realized he doesn't have to know all the words to read the book! (Is that what those pictures are for?!).

Yesterday he went to Carnival Cuts for a "wash and cut." He lets the hairdresser use the electric clippers on him. He looks like such a little man! His pictures from school came in, so I probably owe you a wallet photo!

A month later

It's been a month since my wallet was stolen. Last week I mailed off my last affidavit to indicate that I did not make the fraud charges, I did not benefit from the fraud charges, and I support prosecuting whoever did. So, unofficially, it looks like all the credit card charges have been reversed. What a PITA! Now comes the waiting game: waiting for the police to catch the criminal, and waiting to see if anything else happens as far as stealing my identity. The police said it is not likely they will catch the person. Sometimes they catch the person in the act and then backtrack and solve other cases they couldn't solve. I hope the criminal is dumb enough to use my brother's business card to try and get out of a moving violation. Usually the officer will call the other officer on the card to verify. Wouldn't that be nice if they caught him that way . . .

Help

First off, I found out that my aunt has colon cancer. She's having surgery on October 30. The doctor says they will need to remove half of her colon. Please pray for her. This C word: cancer, is really bringing me down.

Second, I have some loved ones that are still going through a rough time. They could use your prayers as well. I'm sorry I cannot tell you more, but I wouldn't ask you to pray for them if it weren't important.

Modern Technology

My contract was up on my cell phone. I searched around and found my current provider had the best deal, so I renewed with them. The nice thing is that they offer an upgrade program when you sign a new contract. I was able to get a $150 instant rebate toward a new phone! I now have a phone that has a camera (I chose to not have one all these years), and most importantly: Bluetooth! So, I now have one of those wireless earpieces and look modern and sassy! Did I mention that my phone is pink . . . ooooohhhhh!

I got an A in Finance! Seven classes to go (including the one I just started). I'm a little excited, but not so much when I think of paying back those student loans! Yuck!

Other than that, I'm tired and looking forward to the weekend. Bring it on!

Saturday the 14th

I don't know if any of you remember this spoof a movie back in the 80's. It was part comedy, part mild scary movie that made fun of the day after Friday the 13th. Each time the 14th falls on a Saturday, I think of it.

Anyway, not much is going on. Finishing up finance, getting adjusted to having another dog in the house, etc.

Elijah has been learning about the President this week. Yesterday he asked me if I knew that the president lives in a white house? I asked him if it's really big, he said yeah and it's all white! He's also learned about muscles and he told me that our hearts are not shaped like a heart you write on paper.

Today in karate he helped out the teacher and earned another paper star. That was the last on he needed to get another blue star for is Gi. He was very excited!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Stay warm!

The last week of Finance

Today starts the last week of finance. Classes run Tuesday through Monday. I was looking forward to it being over and starting a new class, but as you know, I tend to "freak out" when I review the syllabus for the new class. Today was not exception! It looks like it's going to be a lot of reading and a lot of work. I just keep telling myself three more classes and I move into the specialty of the MBA. I'm just under a year to finish!

Sasha is doing well and starting to get very comfortable in her new home. We've had a few hiccups, but I think in a week or two we will be fine.

On another note, I have some loved ones that are having a tough time. I can't get into any detail, but please say a prayer for them.

What's new

Let's see, I keep realizing things that were in my stolen wallet - membership to The Henry Ford, stamps, you know -- things that you don't think of until you go to use them!

I spoke with a detective in one of the cities -- in fact the one where the most fraudulent charges occurred. One of the stores has video surveillance. They are working on burning it on a disc to show me. I also discovered yesterday that there were more charges on one of my credit cards, than I was originally told. I hope they catch whoever did this.

On a fun note, it looks like we are getting another dog. Her name is Sasha and she comes from a Rottweiller Rescue group in the area. Elijah is very excited. She's a little over a year old and very sweet.

Elijah went to the dentist today and did very well. I was so proud. He also is doing well in karate and earned another stripe!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday Marc!

Happy Birthday to my cousin Marc! I'm sure he celebrated last night!

Elijah started his religious education at church today. He was very apprehensive at first, but when I picked him up after mass he wanted to make sure that he comes back again! He made some nice artwork and started learning a new prayer.

After church we headed out to a metro park North of Auburn Hills so a Rottweiller Rescue Reunion. We went to see a rott puppy we are interested in adopting: Sasha. She was so sweet. Elijah wanted to take her home today, but when you adopt, it's a very formal process. Maybe soon we will have another doggie to fill the void that Porsche left behind almost two years ago.

Two weeks to go and I'm done with finance. One more week and I will be less than a year from graduation! Yahoo!

Not much to update

I really don't have much of an update on the identity theft/stolen wallet scam. I did go to the bank to straighten things out and the CVS that the one police detective went to, credited back the fraudulent charge on my account. That's one good thing. However, there was another charge! How can that be you ask? Well, if you don't know this already, take note. When you use your ATM/Debit/Check Card, it reserves $1 on your account. As the bank explains to me, it's done to see if the account is "good." It then takes 24-48 hours for the actual charge to debit your checking account. Of the phone calls I made Thursday and Friday, no one bothered to mention that there was a $1 hold on my account for another possible transaction. Fortunately, it was only $16.91 (still doesn't make it right, but at least it didn't drain my account). I also found out that they tried to make a $300+ purchase at Autozone, but I had already froze that account so the transaction was DENIED!

I also found out yesterday, that one charge that I was told was pending on my account at GFS in Southfield (3 transactions there by the way, so take note that they don't bother to check ID and see that a man is using a women's credit card). Since I reported the card stolen, AMEX was able to deny that hold on my account. Poor GFS. I feel so bad that you got ripped off . . . not! Check ID people!

Another funny. I got a letter in the mail Monday (5 days after the fact) from one of my banks telling me that they tried to reach me by phone and there were some suspicious charges to my account. You think? I've only talked to you on the phone 5 times in 5 days and in person once and I'm the one that told you!

So, I'm just waiting for some form to dispute some charges for one bank, and then I think I've cleared up the whole shopping spree. The future is unknown. Although the police feel that this yahoo was just looking for a joy ride and isn't confrontational, who knows who gets my wallet next. I'll probably be paranoid for awhile.

On a positive note, I have to say of all the companies I've worked with over this mess, US Bank is the best. From the minute I realized that there were fraud charges, they were on it and never even let the charges hit my account. They were A+ by all accounts and I would recommend doing business with them.

The latest update

I was pleasantly surprised to hear from a detective from one of the police departments yesterday. He went to the CVS where one of the crimes occurred. He was able to give me a description -- the main thing being it was a MAN. Now tell me that a man using a woman's credit card isn't suspicious. Unbelievable! There are supposed to be procedures in place where a manager would come and over-ride the transaction (because of how much it is) and check ID. As luck would have it, the manager was busy, so nothing was checked.

I hope I get more scoop from the other cities and I hope the criminal is caught! I also hope that my credit card company gets their money back and makes CVS take the loss due to their own stupidity! I'm trying not to be bitter, but I am angry!

Where do I begin

Yesterday when I went to leave work I noticed something odd. My wallet was gone! At first I'm thinking, could I have left it in the cafeteria . . . no, I remember putting it back in my purse. I couldn't believe someone would just take it!

So, I call one of my credit card companies. While she's putting a hold on my account, she happens to verify my last transactions. Imagine my surprise when she says $500 at a Rite Aid . . . WHAT! There were three transactions at Rite Aid in Waterford -- each $400-500!

I had a credit card, 2 bank cards and a corporate card. They all got hit! When I added up the charges, it's over $4,300! They enjoyed shopping at Rite Aid, CVS, Gordon Food Service, and Farmer Jack. Nice!

My day was spent talking to the Franklin Police -- very nice by the way. Going to the Secretary of State, the bank, lots of phone calls. I also had to go to the Waterford Police, Bloomfield Hills Police and Southfield Police Departments. You have to file a report in each city/town where the crimes are committed. This ensures that if they are able to catch the @&#$% they can be prosecuted and not get off on a technicality such as jurisdiction. PITA! I hope they catch whoever did this and they ROTT!

I'm tired!

Pandora

So my work put the big stop to what is on our computers. We can't have pictures, screensavers or anything that is .exe programs. Now if anything needs to be upgraded or installed, it has to be done by a system administrator. I found myself looking for free internet radio that doesn't require software to be installed. I found a site called Pandora.
http://feeds.pandora.com/feeds/people/tawnydys/favorites.xml?max=50 Here's some of my favorites. You can design your own radio station with your favorite music, as well as rate their suggestions.

TGIF

I don't know about anyone else, but this felt like a long week! I have to work for a few hours tomorrow, so it's going to feel even longer!

Today at work we had the Detroit Historical Museum. They brought us lunch and told us about their museum. Very interesting. It's being renovated right now, but reopens September 29. I can't wait to go check it out. They have an actual replication of a Detroit city street - fascinating! They have a special event in October call "Taste of the D" It's a beer tasting for my beer lovin friends!

On a different subject, I stumbled across a cool website that can give you traffic updates by email or phone: Traffic.com. You can set it up for most big cities around the US. Now I get a phone call in the morning if there are any traffic delays on my "route." Today going home, I hit some traffic, so I called the number and it told me where the problem spot was and the anticipated delay. I'm lovin it!

Happy Birthday to my niece Natalie. I hope you had a great birthday!

Too Tired to Only Be Tuesday!

It's only Tuesday!? Too much going on! Tomorrow is picture day for Elijah and I can't wait to see how they turn out with his new haircut!

Not much else other than juggling work, school, parenthood, and extra-curriculars -- ahhhhhh life in the fast lane! Not quite the fast lane I would have predicted years ago, but ya gotta love it!

The First Week

Elijah did very well for his first week of school w/o a nap! He seems to be having fun and learning a lot!

On another note, I took him up to the mall today and we did some clothes shopping. He's hit a growth spurt, so this was the first time we went in a dressing room and actually tried on clothes!
After buying some outfits, I walked him over to Carnival Cuts. If you don't know, Elijah does not do well when it comes to haircuts. Well, I just marched him in and told him it needed to be cut. He got to sit on a horse and watch Buzz Lightyear while he got a haircut. The stylist also used the electric clippers on him. He looks so grown up. Pictures for school are next week, so they should be nice!

Congratulations Nikki & Steve

Congratulations to my cousin Nikki who got married yesterday. It was a beautiful day and a great celebration. It was good to see some people I have not seen in a long time, and to see others again on a happy occasion. I wish you both all the best!

Happy Birthday Laura!

Happy Birthday to my niece and Goddaughter Laura! I'm glad you had a great day and I hope to see you soon!

Elijah started kindergarten yesterday. So far so good! He said he likes it . . . we'll see how he feels at the end of the week!

Last full day in Orlando

Today is our last full day in Orlando. I'm not sure what we are going to do. The boy is still sleeping -- his schedule is way off!

Yesterday we went to Universal Studios again. We were on our second trip to help ET save his planet when a bad storm rolled in. They closed everything outdoors because it was lightening. We went to MIB, but it just would not let up. After 15 minutes of standing in the store waiting for it to let up, we decided to head back to the hotel.

On the way back to the front, we encountered several areas that had flooded. At one point I was standing in a puddle up past my ankles! As we were leaving, we were going to stop and try out the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co for some lunch, but boy was maxed out from all the disappointment of the weather. Back to the hotel we went.

Later, we met up with a friend from work that just transferred down here. Off to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co we went! The food was awesome and the service was great. They had trivia on the Forrest Gump movie, which I did very well since I love that movie. After, we walked around Citywalk and played some games.

Not sure what today holds, but I'm sure we will have fun! See you soon!

Happy Belated Birthday Pammy!

Yesterday was my cousin Pammy's birthday. I didn't get a chance to log in last night to post her a message so I'm doing it now! I hope you milestone birthday was great!

Ernesto

Well, we made it through Ernesto! There were what they call rain squals, but other than that it wasn't too bad until around 6 p.m. Then the downpour began and did not want to stop!

Last night we went to a Pirate Adventure dinner theatre. It was great, but of course we got caught in the downpour! Everyone but Elijah was pretty soggy. It was a great show and the food was good. Elijah was too shy to participate on stage, but he did participate from his seat!

Don't know what the day holds for today, but it is sunny again! We did make it to Islands of Adventure the other day and there is a new ride at Seuss Landing. It's a train ride in the sky. We rode it twice and it takes you around Seuss Landing and you can see other parks within the park. Once again it is HOT here! When we left on Tuesday at around 4 p.m. it was 99 degrees!

Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Another Smokin Day

We're down in Florida and it is HOT! Sunday wasn't bad, there was a couple of quick sprinkles and cooled things off a bit. Yesterday it was sunny and hot! At one point the car thermometer said it was 104 degrees.

So far we've been to Universal Studios and Disney MGM. Today sounds like it's Island of Adventure, but that can change.

Cross your fingers that we don't get evacuated for the hurricane!

Now that's a fire

I forgot to mention that earlier this week we had a fire in our front yard! Robbie was acting funny and naturally you assume he just wants to outside time. Well, when the door to outside was opened, it smelled like burning wood. After a good search of the house - basement and furnace included, we couldn't find anything. While I was upstairs looking out the windows for something, I hear "come quick!" Next thing I know there's a small blaze in our front yard and it is close to the bush . . . yikes! I extinguished it with a bucket of water (and another to be safe). Note to self -- keep mulch off of outdoor lighting!

The New Belt

Today was testing day at karate. Elijah did well and earned his white with yellow stripe belt! He was so proud! They gave him a certificate as well! He stayed focused and worked hard. I'm so proud of him!

I'm writing this from Orlando. We made it down after a brief flight delay -- 30 minutes at the gate and then another 15 in the plane. When we landed we had to wait another 10 because there was lightening and they could not let us off the plane for safety reasons. Then our bags were delayed as well. Overall I think it set us back 1 1/2 hours, but we're here! Hopefully tomorrow will be a smoother day!

Have a good weekend!

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

Happy Birthday Janinne!

Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law Janinne! I hope your day was great and I'm glad you liked your cards!

Saturday, August 19, 2006

The Green Stripe

Elijah earned his green stripe in Karate. Next Saturday he gets to test for a belt -- white with yellow stripe! It should be interesting. After that we get ready to leave for Florida.

Not much else is going on. Have a great weekend!

11 Days and Counting

I don't think I mentioned this earlier, but I stumbled across a sweet deal to go back to Florida. 11 days and counting! I had a week of time share left from 2003 and it was about to expire. The crazy thing was I could only confirm it 2 months in advance, so it's no surprise that I'm down to the wire and book it at the last minute. On a good note, I will be on break from school for 5 of the days, so I'm really excited about that.

On another note, I passed the pre-requisite for Finance. It was pass/fail, so my effort wasn't high, but it's nice to know I passed. We will see how the "real" class goes now! In less and 14 months I will be done! That is very exciting!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Cincinnati

Yesterday I drove down to Cincinnati for a business/pleasure trip. It was to visit the Kingsgate Conference Center, and see the area. Since it was a Friday, I brought Elijah, along with Grandma & Grandpa H.

We started with a great lunch buffet. From there, we (others from my office and myself), split off from out guests and did a tour of the University of Cincinnati Rec Center and Student Union -- which BTW has a movie theatre and a bar in it -- I think I got ripped off in my undergraduate education! While we were on the tour, the fire alarm went off, so we got to see Cincinnati's finest come in and save the day (well, they would have it it wasn't a false alarm)! After that excitement, we headed off to a great place called Newport on the Levee. Great place to shop, eat and have a great time. It's on the Kentucky side, but has a great view of downtown Cincinnati.

On Saturday we wrapped up with business and were off to enjoy the rest of the weekend on our own. Thanks to the great team at Kingsgate, (and it looks like our friends at the SpringHill Suites as well), we received free tickets to the Beach Waterpark. What a great day! Elijah had a blast -- actually we all did!

We are about to go down and have dinner . . . enjoy the rest of your weekend!

My big boy

Elijah had his first sleepover last night. He stayed at Aunt Laurie's and hung out with Madison. This was his first night away from home without me. Needless to say I think he slept better than I did! He didn't come home until after 4 p.m. today! He said he had fun and I think Maddie had fun too!

Happy Birthday Terry!

Happy birthday to my step father Terry! I didn't get to see him today to wish him a happy birthday in person, but I hope his day was great!

I'd also like to wish a few others a happy b-day: Michelle, Lindsey, and Jen! They all had birthdays on the 9th!

When it rains

It Pours!

Well, my mom had surgery on Friday. She's doing very well by the way. Yesterday my dad calls and says he isn't coming over because he doesn't feel well. Next thing I know, he's off to the hospital. He has a major ear infection which was causing him other problems. I bailed him out today and he has to follow up with a specialist.

Some of you may remember, when my mom had her breast cancer surgery almost two years ago, my dad collapsed about two days after and ended up with a pacemaker!

Too much drama!

Homecoming Weekend

For those of you who are/were Dearbornites, it's homecoming weekend! I don't know if I'll make it, but we'll see!

I got my grade today and it was right! I also got my weekly grades for finance. I had to do a financial analysis on Exxon Mobil and my professor wrote: "This assignment was excellent." That made me feel really good considering I've never taken a finance class before!

Gotta run . . . my mom had shoulder surgery today and needs my assistance. Have a great weekend!

Tuesday, August 01, 2006

Happy Birthday Josh!

Happy 17th Birthday to Kevin's son Josh! I hope your day was great!

How hot is it?

Well, it's so hot here that yesterday my rearview mirror fell off! I had to go to Murray's to get the stuff to put it back on! That's hot!

Saturday, July 29, 2006

Problem Solved . . . maybe!

I got my Econ professor to update the gradebook. Let's hope it was before he submitted grades, or else I'll still have to get the university involved!

Other than that, it is HOT here! Elijah and I went to karate this morning and I felt like we walked into a sauna!

On a last note, happy birthday to my second cousin Kenny. He is actually over in Europe now and has been there for almost two months! I hope your day was great -- wherever you are!

Friday, July 28, 2006

Frustration

Well, I'm glad Econ is over. The professor "jacked" my grade and has mysteriously overlook 52 points that I am due! Needless to say, I may have to get the university involved to get it straightened out.

Now it's time for finance. I just started a three week pre-requisite (pass/fail), then it is eight weeks of the "real" finance. Here's the one thing I don't get about this program. All the classes are three credit hours except for 3: accounting, finance, and statistics. They are four credit hour classes and are eight weeks long (instead of six). Now for accounting and finance, there are pre-reqs lasting three weeks. Why would you have someone take a total of 11 weeks of a class? Some of these six week classes should be eight weeks. I don't get it. So basically, I'll be doing finance until October!

Nothing else is going on, except I've got sinus/allergy problems. Have a great weekend!

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Happy Birthday Kevin!

Happy Birthday to my oldest and dearest friend Kevin! It has been a tough year for him, so please keep him in your prayers. Cheers to a new year for you . . . I hope it brings you everything you have ever wished for!

The Red Stripe

Elijah earned another stripe tonight at karate! One more and he gets to test for a belt! The instructor was doing a demonstration and had Elijah do the move with him, Elijah was grinning from ear to ear! I get such a kick out of watching him in class!

Friday, July 21, 2006

Where does the time go?

This is the last weekend of economics. Boo-hoo. I can't believe how fast these last six weeks have gone by. Tuesday starts a finance pre-req -- three weeks long. Then eight weeks of finance. Should be interesting. As far as econ goes, our team project has been on the company 3M. Since it happens to be a huge company, we based our study on the health care division. Needless to say, I have learned more about health care products than I ever imagined.

Other than that, my weekend is filled with karate, a birthday party and a bridal shower . . . while finishing my final project and completing my final exam. Wish me luck!

Have a nice weekend!

Jeep Blues

So sometime last week my left turn signal started acting up. When I say acting up, I mean it looked like it was hyperventalating when I would use it. I knew it must mean that something wasn't working on the driver side since my right turn blinker was normal. Sure enough, I checked and the rear blinker was not working, but the front was. I head off to the auto parts store to get a new bulb. Easy fix . . . right? WRONG!

Before I could get to changing it, both my blinkers stop working. Yes, stop working! Now solid light, not rapid blinking, nothing! So, I spent the weekend with my arm out the window letting people know when I was turning. I think people forgot what they mean because I got some funny looks.

So this morning I head off to the dealership to have them take a look. I was not interested in commuting in rush hour on the freeway without any turn signals. Some people drive crazy enough. When I get there, they tell me they are pretty backed up and I may need to leave it overnight (for blinkers!). I ask them if they could at least diagnose the problem and go from there. Sure! Mind you this was before 8 a.m.

Fortunately in one regard, it was slow at work, so it wasn't a big deal I wasn't there. Elijah and I hung out at home. At 4 p.m. I call to check on the car and I'm told that my car is next. At 7 p.m. I call and they tell me they are just pulling it in . . . WHAT! I was so mad. I get the manager on the phone who gives me a song and dance. I tell them I'm coming to get the car, but then do I play roulette on the freeway in the morning? I really don't want to. Fortunately for me I have a friend I work with that doesn't live too far from me. I've given her a ride to work on a few occasions, so I call her up. No Problem.

So, we shall see what they find out tomorrow. I'm not happy with Fox Hills Chrysler Jeep, but maybe they can redeem themselves on Tuesday. Cross your fingers.

Saturday, July 15, 2006

Too Hot!

After karate, I took Elijah to the spraypark in Plymouth. His karate class is going to be held there next week, so I thought we would check it out early. He had a blast, but it was hot! No shade and a bright sun -- not my kind of fun, but I decided to tough it out for him. It didn't help that I was tired from hangin with the ladies from work last night.

Not much else going on but homework. I'm almost done with this class - yahoo!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Thursday, July 13, 2006

Happy Birthday Coco!

Happy Birthday to Nicole! Hope you have a great day!

Mixed Up

I don't know about anyone else, but I am all mixed up this week. Having the holiday on a Tuesday really messes with your internal clock. Today is Friday, but it feels like a Wednesday (maybe Thursday). Needless to say I haven't felt like I had my head together since Wednesday!
On top of that, I'm really unhappy with Elijah's "school." I just don't feel like he is getting quality care, in addition to a quality curriculum. I spent the morning researching options, so we shall see . . .

Have a great weekend!

Happy Independence Day!

Saying "happy fourth of july" sounds too much like wishing you a great day on a date! Is anyone else sad that it's back to the old routine tomorrow? Where has the first half of the year gone? My dog hates this time of year -- fireworks are torture to him . . . I need to find the doggie downers so he can relax!

Nothing else new . . . so I guess I will sign off! Be safe and have a great week!

Festive Day

Today we went to the Westland Festival. Canton doesn't seem to have one, so we venture down the street and hang out. For $18 per person you can ride the carnival rides all day (it's expensive, but a deal when you see how much the individual tickets are!). One that that is different this year is the Vietnam "Moving Wall" Display. It is on display until July 4. It is the only time in the Detroit area this year (it's in Alma and Cheboygon in September). I have to say it is pretty amazing. It looks almost identical to the Vietnam Memorial in DC. My cousins have an uncle that was killed in action, so we went and looked up his name on the wall. They give you a crayon, so you can take a piece of paper and "shadow" the person's name on the paper. If you are in the Westland area, you should stop by!

Just Venting

I don't know how anyone else in the Detroit Metro area feels about it, but I am at my limit with construction. Not only have I been experiencing an additional 20-30 minute commute everyday, but today and tomorrow are ridiculous! Today, Elijah missed karate because it took me an hour and 45 minutes to get from Bingham Farms to Canton. Telegraph was a parking lot; I-275 was a parking lot; Haggerty was a parking lot; as well as 5 Mile and Newburgh. I was ready to pull of the road and either scream or cry. Instead, I came home and fixed myself a glass of wine!

Tomorrow, they are closing Telegraph around I-696 -- guess what . . that's the way I get to work! I'm sure 12 Mile will be a parking lot, so who knows how I'm going to get through this. Wish me luck and thanks for letting me vent!

Kevin is getting a second opinion next week. Thank you for your prayers!

Good Luck!

Two of my nieces are off to a dance competition in the Chicago area. One dances Wednesday and the other on Thursday. Wish them luck and please say a prayer for them that they travel safe and do well! Good luck Laura & Sarah!

It's the Weekend!

What a nice weekend it looks to be! We started out Saturday with some karate, followed by time at the park! Elijah has now earned 2 stripes and 2 stars in karate! The rest of the weekend includes homework, laundry, cleaning and some play time. It's nice to be home for a weekend!

Happy birthday to my brother-in-law Blane. (a day late and a dollar short I know)! I hope you had a great day!

In loving memory

reAfter coming back from Lexington, I was told that Uncle Nick passed away. He has been a part of our family ever since I can remember. Uncle Nick was a companion of my grandmother and a dear family member to all of us. Yesterday was a visitation/memorial. We will all miss you Uncle Nick, the Greek!

Kentucky Wrap Up

I'm a few days late in posting this, so I apologize in advance.

Saturday we started off the day with breakfast in the restaurant. It was a fabulous buffet (we also enjoyed it on Sunday). After breakfast it was off in the Marriott van for drive in the country. We saw a lot of horse farms and learned about white and black fences. We also learned more about horse reproduction that I ever wanted to know.

We stopped off at Woodford Reserve for a tour and some bourbon. We got a shot of bourbon and a bourbon ball before the tour. After the tour, we had lunch that included chocolate bourbon cake.

From there we checked out a few competitor hotels and headed back to the hotel. After getting back, we loaded up the kids and went to the Kentucky Horse Park. First off, the signage is less than impressive. About our second time around, the kids had a meltdown, so we stopped a playground they setup at the park. I wandered around and secured passes for a pony ride for the kids. Elijah loved it and so did the other kids. That is until one of them had an allergic reaction and broke out in hives! A trip to the drugstore and some Benedryl fixed that.

From there, we met up with an old friend at a place called Gattitown. The website is still under construction, so you may not see it yet. Basically it's a little Chuck E Cheese with a splash of Dave & Busters. The kids had fun and the food wasn't too bad (definitely cheaper than CEC).

Sunday was breakfast and the drive home. Happy belated Father's Day to all you dads out there. Did you remember to call and wish your dad a Happy Father's Day?

Southern Hospitality

I'm sitting in a suite at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort. (www.griffingatemarriott.com). It was a crazy day getting down here, but as soon as I walked in, I remembered why I love this hotel. We had a fabulous dinner at the Mansion. (the only 4 diamond restaurant in Lexington), and now I am chillin out trying to motivate myself to do homework!

Tomorrow is a tour of Lexington and a little R&R. Sunday we hit the road to come back to Detroit! Have a great weekend y'all!

Headin down to the bluegrass

I'm leaving for Lexington, KY in the morning. A business trip with a dash of pleasure. I'll fill you in later. I thought Elijah would be excited to see some horses, but he said they are stinky. (I guess they don't keep the barn clean at The Henry Ford). Yee Haw! I'll write y'all later!

Another Update

Thank you to everyone that has been praying for Kevin. I really appreciate it!

He had a great breakthrough today! He sounds really good and it was great to talk to him like the old days. One of the tumors game back non-cancer. The other one came back a different grade, but over the phone, the doctor did not call it cancer. He plans to go for a second opinion -- as we all have learned over the years that it never hurts to get one. He is having complications from where they removed the lymph nodes and the results of that biopsy aren't back yet. So, he's not totally out of the woods yet, but he sounded so much better.

Thank you again, and please keep him in your prayers.

Kevin Update

I haven't spoke with Kevin, but I spoke with his mom. He went in yesterday and it looks like he was getting an infection. Right now he is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. He will probably call me later, but please keep praying for him.

Thank you.

Nothing New

I haven't had any updates about my friend Kevin. I've been leaving messages this week. As soon as I hear more, I'll post a note.

This is the last weekend of Marketing. Managerial Economics starts Tuesday. Yes, I am having a panic attack over the syllabus! Part of me would just love to drop it, take six weeks off and pick it up later, but I don't think that is going to happen! Another team project, an individual paper, and lots of online research. The first one is about the rising costs of gas, and universal health care -- two interesting topics . . . eh?

Enjoy you weekend!

Race for the Cure

Although my schedule has not permitted me to participate, today is Detroit's Race for the Cure. It's a great cause and has become very dear to my heart over the last six years. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation also has items for purchase. If you are looking for a place to donate to, look no further!

More Prayers Needed

My friend Kevin is back in the hospital. He's having complications from the surgery. They also took some lower lymph nodes to test for cancer, so he's in bad shape all the way around. He could use some prayers if you could say one for him. Thank you.

Happy Birthday Uncle Butch!

Usually the fact that my uncle was born on June 6, is not a big deal, but this year it gives me the willies! Happy birthday . . . I hope your day is great!

Mini Trip

I took a mini trip to Cedar Point yesterday. We left on Sunday and stayed at the Castaway Bay Resort and Waterpark. The waterpark was really cool and Elijah loved it! On the downside, the hotel did not have internet (WHAT?). How can that be in today's world? I had some projects for school to turn in, so I found myself at the local Starbucks. The employees there were so nice and accommodating . . . Thank you!

All I have to say is Cedar Point is not Disney or Universal. From the service, to the maps, to the overall experience. Elijah had fun, but the park just wasn't what I remembered it as growing up.
It's the last week of Marketing! Yippee! Wish me luck!

Prayer Request

On another note, my oldest dearest friend Kevin had surgery today. It looks like his testicular cancer is back. I spoke with him briefly and he is in a lot of pain. I don't know what the results of the surgery were and what the course of treatment is from here, but if you would please say a prayer for him, I would appreciate it. He has been through so much over the last year that he could really use some good news these days! Thank you!

June Already?

I can't believe it's June! Where has the time gone?

I was at the CoPa yesterday to see the Tigers. Someone I work with in Minneapolis came in to visit our office and a bunch of us were fortunate to go to the game for some R&R. Being a sales person, it is fun to do these things when you get the chance. We started with some cocktails at the Copper Canyon and from there we made a little detour to get on the Lodge and head downtown. While I was trying to decide where to park, I discovered the Town Pump and thought of a friend that frequented that place years ago. I didn't get to see the end of the game (I left in the 6th inning), but I guess our section won donuts. How do you cash that in?

Two weeks left in Marketing and then it's Econ! I just got the book yesterday. Tuesday I get to preview the class, so I'm sure I will be posting my initial thoughts then!

Have a nice weekend!

Elijah Earned a Stripe!

Elijah had karate today and he earned a stripe! The instructors said he is doing very well! He has been working so hard to earn a star that he did not know about the stripe. He was so proud to have it on his belt -- I was so happy for him!

Two weeks until this class is over! Then it's econ! Other than that, the week is almost over!

Beautiful Day

Today was such a nice day, I can't believe it is after 8 p.m.

We started the day with a visit from my friend Becky. We worked together years ago. She brought her two boys and we (Elijah and I) headed out with them for a visit to Jungle Java. It was nice because we got there right after it opened and no one was there. Not long after two more kids arrived, but it was still nice. For about two hours we pretty much had the place to ourselves. It was a fun time and we wrapped it up by going to lunch at Big Boy. Becky's one son, Owen loves the Big Boy and even held up his burger to look like him!

From there we headed back for an afternoon of play and movies. Elijah crashed hard for a nap, so I snuck out for a pedicure and manicure -- very nice and relaxing. Instead of reading magazines, I opted to read more about marketing. I figured I may as well be a little productive.

Impressive 8th Graders

I spent my morning today at O. E. Dunckel Middle School helping out an old friend from my jr high/high school days. (he's the one on the right in this pic). They were preparing a group of 8th graders for job interviews. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. All of the students were professional and well dressed. They made eye contact and for the most part, spoke well. I really enjoyed it and I hope I helped them. They certainly made an impression on me.

After that it was back to work. Pretty un-eventful day and now I am off until Tuesday! School break, work break, what more could I ask for?

Enjoy your weekend!

Break Time

I'm on a one week break from school . . . yahoo! Although I'm still trying to do some work so maybe I won't feel so far behind. Class ends June 12!

Elijah is doing well with karate at East-West Martial Arts. He started participating three classes ago and seems really excited now when we go.

A gymnastics group has been coming to his "school" once a week (TumbleBunnies), for an extra fee of course, but he has been enjoying that as well!

Did anyone watch the end of Alias?

Happy Birthday Aunt Linda Gail

Happy Birthday to my Aunt Linda Gail. She doesn't like to be called this, but Aunt Linda doesn't sound right! I hope you have a great birthday! (She's having a big one today!).

Busy day tomorrow: karate, birthday party, and homework! I'm on break starting Tuesday (yipee). Once again, this class is kicking my you know what! I'm tired and will be happy when it's over!

Have a great weekend!

To All You Mothers Out There

Happy Mother's Day!

Elijah got me a very pretty necklace (or as he calls it neck-a-lis), and a card that says: "There's just one way to feel about having a mom like you . . ." When you open it, you hear James Brown say "Wow, I feel good!" It's really cute and Elijah dances when the song plays. He told me Happy Mudders Day!

To everyone I know that's a mom, Happy Mother's Day!

Congratulations David and Aaron!

Congratulations to my nephews Aaron and David! They made their first communion today. It was a very nice mass and they both were very handsome! Lunch was great! If you are ever in Woodhaven, check out the Big Bear Lodge on Telegraph (South of West Road).

Thank you for lunch Chad and Janinne -- especially the quesadillas! They were great!

Would you like some cheese with that whine?

I told myself I wouldn't do it on the blog, but I am! It's time to whine! This class is kicking my you know what! I thought taking Monday off of work would get me back in the groove, but it didn't. On everything else, I got some interesting feedback from the professor on a project. I say interesting because he repeats himself in the feedback three times and there are characters missing in the comments (so you see a bunch of ? in the middle of words), etc. If I had read the feedback before the grade, I would have guessed that I got 30 out of 50 points, but instead he gave me 46 out of 50. I know, it's not too bad, but I get a little "funny" about these things!

Today it looks like I got 47 out of 50 on another project, but no comments! Ugh! I don't get it!

At least tomorrow is Friday! TGIF! On Saturday my nephews, Aaron and David are making their first communion! Saturday night and all of Sunday will be the usual: homework! How exciting . . . NOT!

We're Back!

We are back in Michigan! After a 30 minute flight delay, we actually made it in relatively good time. Getting to the gate and getting our bags was a different story! We had to sit on the runway to wait for a gate-- how it is possible that there is not a gate ready at 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday night in a terminal that is only for the airlines we are on, it beyond me. I think it took another 30 minutes for the bags to come out! Needless to say, but the time we got home and somewhat settled, it was about 10:30 p.m.

To add to the drama of sitting on the runway, once we pull up to the gate, everyone is anxious to get off the plane (nothing new). Well, Elijah has to go potty. Now we all know that is not going to happen since everyone is in the aisle and is not going to move anywhere but forward and off the plane. I was convinced he wasn't going to make it, but he did! Although he had to go so bad that he was pulling his pants down as he's walking into the stall. I think he mooned a lady!

Today has been spent unpacking, getting settled and doing homework. Elijah has been playing outside and watching "Hoodwinked" and playing with his toys.

Have a great week!

I almost forgot . . . if I told you we would send you a postcard, don't look for it! I never got around to sending them! Sorry!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

As I am writing this, I can hear fireworks outside. It's a party around here! I don't think many on vacation need an excuse to have a celebration, but Cinco de Mayo helps! Disney even went out and took the traditional mouse hat (with the ears) and threw a sombrero on it!

Today we went to Magic Kingdom. Elijah has a routine down at this place (making me realize he has been here a lot for his age). We start in Tomorrowland by assisting Buzz Lightyear in defeating the Evil Emperor Zurg. After that we have to venture on the Tomorrowland Transit for a stroll around the area. Our new routine for Tomorrowland ends with a race on the Indy Speedway. Elijah is too short to reach the petals, but he does pretty well behind the wheel!

He went on the Mad Hatter Tea Party for the first time. I sent Grandpa on with him because I didn't want to risk spinning too much! Another first was the Haunted Mansion. Elijah kept asking why the ghost was in the car with us and is he going to really follow us home. Other rides we did included Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, Snow White, and It's a Small World. We didn't go to Frontierland this year -- it was getting really hot and the boy needed a nap! After a short nap, we shopped in Downtown Disney. Elijah got his face painted to look like a superhero. At first he asked me to call him Elijah, Galaxy Defender, but then he changed his mind. He is now Superhero Elijah. He wouldn't wash it off, so I am anxious to see what he looks like tomorrow! I have a feeling we will be going back for another painting before we go. (he really wants Grandma & Grandpa H to see him)! We also did the outlet shopping and I made my annual trip to the Coach Outlet - Yippee! I made some stellar purchases! Elijah also made out with some stuff from Tommy Kids and the Stride Rite Outlet.

What a day!

Another Day at Disney

Yesterday we went to Disney MGM and Epcot. At MGM, we did the usual Playhouse Disney and Voyage of the Little Mermaid. From there we stumbled across the Power Rangers. Unfortunately we did not get any autographs, the lines were too long and they had to run off to save the world. We did play some games at Pizza Planet, and met Kim Possible! Elijah went on the Star Wars ride with Ray, Jennifer and Kiara. (It makes me motion sick). After we caught a bit of the parade before heading off.

At Epcot, we left another legacy. Elijah and I took a picture together. We also looked up Gary's as well as Elijah's that are already there. We also got to see Ray and Jennifer's. Kiara and Jen also left another legacy. We'll see all of them next time we visit. We also got to ride Soarin'. That was a great ride. The kids loved it and in fact got their second wind as a result! As we were walking off the ride, the fireworks were starting. We saw some and then headed off for a late dinner and for me, more homework!

Elijah & the Yeti

Tuesday we went to Disney's Animal Kingdom. We saw "Festival of the Lion King" and went on the Kilimanjaro Safari. Elijah really wanted to go on Expedition Everest, the new "roller coaster" at the park. I was a little concerned -- more that he would not be tall enough to ride. We go there and he just made it. He was so excited. They stamped his hand "Yeti" so no one else would question his height.

The entire time we are in line I kept telling him to have fun and it's okay to be scared, but just remember the ride is meant to be fun. We get on the ride and he asks me to hold him, so I put my arm around him. Since you only see a small part of the ride from the outside, I had no idea what to expect. We take off and proceed around a bend and it looks like we are going uphill, but then the track is broke! What do you do? We start the ride backwards! Then we are in total darkness going around turns. All of a sudden we are moving forward and you see a shadow of the Yeti tearing up the track. We go through more twists and turns, along with some hills. Near the end, we go around a turn and see the giant Yeti swatting at us. The end. Elijah said he liked it except for the part when we were going backwards. The boy rode is first grown up rollercoaster!

Soak up the sun

Well, I spent yesterday on the patio doing homework. Some may think that doesn't sound like a vacation, but sitting on a patio (screened so there weren't bugs) with view of a man made lake and mini beach, is something I would not get back home! Everyone else did various things such as nap, walk around, do laundry, watch movies. In the evening, we went to Downtown Disney and had dinner at the House of Blues. After dinner, we walked around and made a few small purchases.

Today the plan is to hit Disney! We are still materializing our plans, but it should be a great day! My friend Ray has a blog and he also has pictures if you want to check them out! www.thepridelands.com. I'm not a savvy as him, so I'll get to my pictures sooner or later (probably later)!

Searching for my lost shaker of salt - Sing it Jimmy!

I'm down in sunny Florida! Currently I am sitting on the patio, looking at the water, and wondering where is my Margarita! I wish! I am on the patio, but I'm doing homework!

Yesterday we spent the day at Universal Studios. It was senior day (not senior citizen day, high school senior day). We rode the Jimmy Neutron ride, ET, Woody Woodpecker's Roller Coaster, Men in Black, and then we crashed (at least the kids fell asleep in the car)! By the time we checked into the condo, went grocery shopping, and ate dinner, it was 9 p.m.! Thanks for the great dinner Jen! Needless to say we are a little tired today. We opted to do the timeshare tour and earned some Disney dollars. No one bought, but I really like the Horizons by Marriott down the street. It is really kid focused. We figured we would do an early evening visit to Downtown Disney and start fresh tomorrow. Hopefully the kids will get back on schedule and not be so cranky! I guess lack of sleep does that to you! :-)

Wish you were all here!

Vacation . . . have to get away!

I keep singing that GoGo's song! It doesn't help that they put it in a commercial! What's that called again JAS? :-)

Later today I am off to Orlando! Elijah is very excited! I'm doing laundry and packing as I write this. I have my checklist and of course I need to squeeze in a quick shopping trip before I go! It looks like nice weather in Michigan this coming week, so I don't feel too bad about leaving you all behind!

There's supposed to be internet at the condo, so I may be posting while I am there. I sure hope the internet works because I have homework to do! They of course have fee-based internet in the lobby, but who wants that!

I may post again before I go! I have more customer service issue stories from yesterday! Yikes!

Is Superior Service Gone?

I'm irritated and thought I would vent. On Saturday, I took Elijah to the shoe store to get his "Spring/Summer" shoes as well as some sandals for our trip to Florida. We always to go this shoe store in Garden City because they have Stride-Rite shoes and "the boy" always needs a wide shoe. So, I've been going to this place since 2003 and we get shoes 3-4 times a year when you count the Winter boots, sandals, etc.

So Saturday we go and a man helps us. He measure Elijah's foot and adjusts the side part (indicating wide), and proceeds to go get the shoes Elijah picked out. He tries them on and I ask the man what size they are: 13! I mention the wide foot and he agrees. Needless to say we buy two pairs and leave. I get home and happen to be looking at the box and notice it says 13M, not 13W. So I grab the other box . . . same thing! At this point I'm ticked because they are closed and are not open Sunday.

Yesterday, I call the store and another man says to bring Elijah and the shoes in and he will check them. I rush home from work, get Elijah and the shoes. When we get there, the man that helped us Saturday is there along with the other man I spoke to on the phone. The one that sold us the shoes seems to have an attitude and comments that the shoes are velcro. The other one proceeds to measure Elijah's feet and points out to the other guy that his foot is clearly wide. In the meantime, another customer walks in, so the one that sold us the shoes is busy with them. The other guy says that the shoes will work for him because he has plenty of room. I indicate that considering he has had wide shoes for the last three years, that had the other guy had a conversation with me that the medium would work, we wouldn't be here today. He agrees, but no apology, no nothing! Now I wasn't expecting something free, but an apology would have been nice.

If anyone knows of a kids shoe store that sells Stride-Rite in the Canton area, let me know! I'm looking for a new shoe store!

Elijah's Good Deed

I just had to post again today. Elijah went to the grocery store with Grandpa Hayse and while they were there, an older lady dropped some change. Elijah ran up and picked up all the coins for her. She was so tickled by his nice deed that she gave him a quarter. He is so proud of it and asked me to hold it for him. He also asked Grandpa if he could buy me some flowers. Isn't that sweet!

Jiu-Jitsu Anyone?

Elijah is officially a martial arts student! We have been "shopping around" to see if it is something he wants and is able to do. Last night we signed up! He looks so cute in his uniform! Prior to signing up he had a one on one class with the instructor. He got to block punches, throw punches and kick! He has a good punch, so look out! He was so cute saying "yes, sir!" My hope is that he will not only learn some self defense skills but also build his confidence.

Spring Fever

Elijah was sick so we stayed home today. I've been fighting something myself, but I don't seem to be as sick as him. Anyways, I was watching the news and they showed that some parts of the country are still getting snow! WHAT! Please don't let it snow near me! I just packed up Elijah's sweatshirts! Did I mention we are going to Florida in NINE days!

This is the last week of my accounting class. I received the info on my marketing class . . . another team project! This time we get to pick our teams! My first reaction each time I read a syllabus for one of these classes is 'how am I going to do this?' So far I have been very blessed with great professors and good grades. I hope my blessings don't run out anytime soon!

Did anyone catch Alias last night? WOW!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! I hope you have a wonderful day!

I'm waiting for Elijah to wake up and see what the Easter Bunny brought him! Yesterday we did an Easter Egg Hunt at Auntie J and Uncle Chad's house. He had so much fun playing with his cousins! (He also took a very good nap after! :-))

Good Friday to You

Is it proper to wish someone a Happy Good Friday? Today symbolizes a sad time, but the end result is a happy one . . . I need a scholarly religious person to comment on this one!

I'm off today because Elijah's daycare is closed. We've got some activities to keep us busy and we'll close the day out by going to the Fish Fry at St. Mary's. Feel free to join us if you would like!

I'm back from Miami!

I went to Miami yesterday for work. I'm back today and figured out I was there for exactly 23 hours! It was fun and I got to see Uncle Chuck! Since it has been six years since I have seen him (at my wedding), that was by far the best part of the trip. I stayed at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa -- A Marriott Resort. I guess Tiger Woods is there a lot since they always have the Ford Championship there. I apologize to all those avid golf fans, but it didn't mean much to me! I got to see some old friends and made some new ones, but I'll be back to the old routine tomorrow!

I'll be back in Florida in 18 days! Yahoo!

Happy Birthday Laurie!

Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law Laurie. Elijah and I just left her a voice mail! I hope you had a great day!

Another busy week comes to an end. Monday and Tuesday were rough adjusting to the time change. Why can't they do the time change on a Friday night and give people the weekend to re-adjust?

I'll be doing homework and packing this weekend . . . did I mention I'm going to Miami? I've had Will Smith's song in my head all week! I'm only there for 23 hours, but 20 of it is open for celebration! I get to go because of a sales award I won. Others in the office left today, but stayed back to spend time with my "sweetie" (Elijah).

Have a great weekend!

What I did on my birthday . . .

I started out my day by taking Elijah to the dentist. He was so good. He let her clean and brush his teeth. (The first visit to the dentist was just a ride in the chair. The second visit was just a cleaning, no brushing). The didn't use the water gun, so he got to spit in the bowl -- fun times for a boy!

Later in the afternoon, I had a massage. I wish I could have one every day!

In the evening, Elijah and I went out to dinner with my dad. Elijah likes it when they sing for someone's birthday. The server came up to the table and Elijah kept saying: "it's my mommy's birthday!"

Thank you for those who called and those who sent cards! I really appreciate it. It feels a little weird this birthday since I have officially lived longer than Gary. C'est la vie I suppose!

Happy April!

More Elijah Stories

It's been a long time since I have gotten excited about my birthday, but over the last two years Elijah has made it fun. He gets so excited. Last weekend we told him my birthday was coming. He asked me if I was going to get him a present. I told him that he is supposed to get me a present! All week whenever he saw a commercial for some toy, he would ask me if I wanted it for my birthday. So yesterday, my dad took him to the mall to pick out a gift. He was so excited when I came home. He went to one of those kiosks and had his picture put on a mousepad and keychain. It is so cute. I guess he went to the card store and my dad showed him where the "mommy" cards are and he picked it out himself! He even took his Buzz Lightyear wallet and paid for the card himself! He and my dad also got a cake and had us light candles and sing. When they were done singing, he told me to make a wish. Of course he asked me what the wish was, so I had to tell him something! It was really cute and here my birthday isn't even until tomorrow. Who knows what stories I will have tomorrow!

On another note, good luck on your exam tomorrow Janinne! I know you will do fine!

Happy Birthday Uncle Chuck and Julie!

As promised, more birthdays!

Happy birthday to my dear old Uncle Chuck! I hope you had a great day and you had better find some time to see me when I'm in Miami on April 10!

Happy birthday to my friend Julie! For the next eight days she gets to be older than me! I hope your birthday is great!

Not much else is going on. I have a loved one going through a tough time right now, so any and all prayers are appreciated. Work is getting a little better and I actually only worked 10.5 hours today. WOW!

Happy Birthday Jenny!

Gary's niece was born the day after his birthday (years later of course), so I want to wish her a happy birthday today! I hope you had a great day!

More birthdays to come this week . . . there must be something in the water during the month of June! LOL

On this day 40 years ago . . .

The love of my life was born. It's hard to believe that Gary would have been 40 today. I wonder how he would have felt about it. I wonder what Gary would have said about Elijah. I'm not as sad today as I thought I would have been. I still miss Gary and wish he were here. Especially since Elijah has so many questions about his daddy.

So, I challenge all of you to post a memorable story about Gary in honor of his 40th!

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

I didn't make it to a pub . . . I guess there is always next year!

Another crazy week at work. The two that came back from training only equaled on (illness on the part of the other), and someone else in the office was out due to a death in her family (please keep her in your prayers). By the time the system crashed on Wednesday (see Technology Challenged), I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm working a few hours tomorrow, so maybe I can dig myself out of this hole. I hear I-696 is going to be closed or "jacked" up, so I'm really excited about that (facetious). I guess it is going to make my commute miserable this summer. Yippee!

Not much else going on . . . Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday Scott!

In all my work "ranting" I forgot to wish my cousin Scott a happy birthday! I hope you had a great day!

Technology Challenged

As if the work couldn't get any busier, the network crashed today. It was not just a "minor" crash, it was company wide. No email, no reservation system, no hotel system. I spent the day starring at my PC wondering what to do. All I could do is use MS Word, MS Excel, and solitaire. I couldn't even print! You don't realize how much you rely on a network until it isn't there. I spent 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. playing receptionist. Know what that means? BAD day tomorrow. If it's back up, I not only have to call back everyone I couldn't help today, but also deal with the inbound calls that come in tomorrow!

The Bat Bike

In honor of the nice weather this weekend, I bought Elijah a new bike since he grew out of his tricycle. He picked a Batman bike (a.k.a. The Batbike). He got a Batman helmet too! He asked me if he could keep it forever! The bike came with a Batman water bottle (the bat bottle), and a cell phone. Elijah said I couldn't touch the phone because I do not have a bat costume (excuse me)! It was funny because he didn't know how to work the brakes, so he went down the driveway, right into Grandma's van! Everything was okay though, and he figured out the brakes after that! Be on the lookout for the Batbike . . . coming to a neighborhood near you! :-)

Elijah Stories

I figured once in awhile I would post an Elijah story. I never realized how entertaining they were until some of my co-workers told me they love Elijah stories.

About two weeks ago, Elijah was at the grocery story with Grandpa H and he said: "Grandpa, when I get big, can I borrow the car?" He's four and he's already asking for the car! Then he said "When I grow up, I want to be a policeman, a fireman, and a man in a magazine." It took me awhile to figure out where the magazine part came from, but it may have been from his Aunt Laurie who always tells him he so cute, he should be in a magazine. Who knows!

March Madness

Most associate March Madness to basketball. To me, it explains what life is like at work! This week we were down 6 people! Between illness, training and just being short staffed, it was a crazy week. Two will be back next week, so hopefully it will get better.

School is coming along, I'm in week three of eight!

Another birthday party tomorrow . . . Elijah is quite the social-lite! It's at Pump It Up!

Other than that, have a great weekend! 1 week to St. Paddy's!

Happy Birthday Leslie and Andrew!

Happy Birthday to my sister in law, Leslie (yesterday was her birthday), and my nephew, Andrew! I hope you both had great days!

My day didn't start out so great . . . I had a blow out on the freeway! Amazingly, I did not realize what happened right away. I thought something hit my car. I did not start to hear the "wobble" until a 1/4 mile later! I ended up sitting on the side of the freeway for 45 minutes before help arrived. Those MDOT courtesy vehicles are the best! If it weren't for that nice man, I would have been waiting another 45 minutes before AAA got there! He wouldn't take any cash, so I gave him a Starbucks gift card to get a cup of coffee. I happened to have it from my work holiday gift. He seemed really thankful for it and wished me a blessed day. I really did feel blessed that: 1- I didn't get hurt and I didn't hurt anyone else, and 2- that I put a smile on someone's face. Priceless!

I'm taking Elijah to see Disney on Ice: The Incredibles tomorrow. It should be fun. Other than that, there isn't much going on other than the usual-- homework!

Have a great weekend!
